How to save links, files and screenshots into one project space

What can you save into a Klypix project space?

You can save files, whole folders, notes, images, links, screenshots, AI chat answers, things you copied earlier and items shared from your iPhone. Each one becomes a card on the project’s canvas.

Klypix is a portable project workspace with a shared brain. On Windows, each project space is a canvas that you save as one .klypix file. The canvas is where you inspect, organise, connect and correct what the project holds.

Take a sample project, a kitchen renovation. You might drop in the contractor’s quote as a PDF, a folder of tile photos and the floor plan as a snip. You might also paste a link to an appliance video and write a note with the budget. Then you draw an arrow from the quote to the budget note.

Which method should I use?

Use the method that matches where the material is now. Every row ends in the same place: a card in your project space.

How do you add files from your PC?

Drag files from File Explorer onto the canvas. Each file becomes a card with a real preview:

• the first page of a PDF
• the text of a DOCX document
• a grid for a spreadsheet
• a poster frame for a video
• a waveform for an audio file
• the picture itself for an image

Small text and code files, such as .txt, .md or .py, become cards that show their text. Other file types land as a plain file card. Pasting works the same way: copy files in File Explorer, switch to the canvas and press Ctrl+V.

Are added files copied into the project or linked?

Files and images you drop are copied. Klypix copies their bytes into the project’s .klypix file, so the project keeps working if the originals are moved, renamed or deleted. It also remembers where each original was.

A few things are linked instead of copied:

• Large folders. By default, a folder up to 200 MB is copied in, and a larger one stays where it is on disk. Its card keeps the full listing and is marked Linked. You can change this under Folders on drop in the canvas settings, and you can embed a linked folder of up to 1 GB from its card.
• Very large pasted files. A file over 500 MB that you paste from File Explorer becomes a link to the original.
• Other project spaces. A .klypix file you drop in becomes a link to that project space, not a copy.

A copy is separate from the original, so later edits to the original on disk are not picked up automatically. A linked item points to the original, so that file or folder has to stay available on your PC. Move the project to another PC and the copied files travel with it; linked ones do not.

A .klypix file is a plain ZIP that you can unzip and read. It holds a manifest, the canvas layout, one small JSON file per card and an assets folder with the embedded files.

How do you add and manage whole folders?

Drag a folder from File Explorer onto the canvas. It becomes one folder card that shows the complete directory tree, nested subfolders and all. By default, a folder up to 200 MB is embedded in the project, and a larger one stays on disk as a linked listing. When a folder is embedded, files over 200 MB are skipped and listed on the card rather than dropped silently.

Inside an embedded folder card you can:

• create subfolders at any depth, or start an empty folder card with right-click → New folder
• move files and whole subtrees between and inside folders, by dragging or with right-click → Move to folder
• delete files or entire folders, after a confirmation step

To file an existing card into an embedded folder, drag a file, image, video, audio or another folder card onto the folder card. You can even drop it onto a specific subfolder row. Its bytes move inside that folder, and name clashes are resolved automatically. A linked folder card does not take drops: manage its files in File Explorer, then refresh the card.

How do you add notes and images?

Use the Text tool (T) to write a note, or paste text onto the canvas. Notes are text cards, stored as plain, readable JSON inside the project file. AI tools connected through the free, Apache-2.0 klypix-mcp engine can create and edit them too.

For an image, drag the file onto the canvas or paste it. That includes a screenshot already on your clipboard. Images are stored in the project as real bytes. At low zoom Klypix shows smaller copies, so large boards stay responsive.

How do you save links and connect notes?

Paste a web address onto the canvas, or drag a link from your browser. A paste that contains only links becomes one link card per link, up to 20 at a time. The card shows a preview, such as the page’s title and image, when the site provides one.

A link inside a longer passage stays part of that text note. To turn it into a card, right-click the note and choose Convert to link preview.

Notes can also link to each other. Inside a note, type [[ and pick another card from the autocomplete. Each [[wikilink]] draws as a line on the board. Klypix also has canvas-to-canvas link cards that point to another project space.

Can Klypix turn a saved video link into text?

Yes, for public video links, when you ask. Right-click a link card and choose Read contents. The text lands as a new card beside the link, joined to it by an arrow.

• YouTube. A cloud AI model reads the video from its address.
• Public Instagram, TikTok and Facebook videos. Klypix downloads the public video to your PC, and a cloud AI model turns it into timestamped text. The first time, Klypix asks before it installs the helper it uses to download. That dialog also warns that downloading may be against a platform’s terms.

For an ordinary web page, Read contents puts the page’s text on a card instead. Klypix fetches the page from your PC, and no AI model is involved.

Nothing is read automatically. A link you save stays a link card until you ask. For videos, only public posts work, and Klypix does not use your accounts or cookies.

Reading a video is not on-device. The video, or for YouTube its address, goes to a cloud AI model: Klypix’s included AI or your own API key. A long video may be read from its audio track alone. When Klypix cannot fetch a video, it gives a partial read built from what the platform publishes, such as the caption and cover image. The card says which kind of read it is.

How do you add a screenshot or a snip?

Use the two capture buttons in the canvas toolbar:

• Capture full screen hides Klypix for a moment, takes a screenshot of the screen your pointer is on and places it on the canvas as an image card.
• Snip area opens the Windows Snipping Tool. Draw the area you want, and the snip lands on the canvas.

Both are saved as JPEG images up to 1,280 pixels wide. Starting a snip clears your clipboard, and a snip not finished within a minute is dropped. If a capture fails, nothing is added.

You can also paste any screenshot that is already on your clipboard.

Capture happens on your PC, and the image is saved in your project. Screen analysis in chat and agent runs is a separate permission. It is off by default, Klypix asks before a screenshot is sent to a cloud AI model, and you can revoke the permission at any time. Screenshots sent for analysis are relayed through Klypix’s own server to the AI provider. Asking a cloud AI feature about an image card can also send that image to the model.

How do you save an AI answer into the project?

Choose Add to canvas on the answer. Press Alt+Space anywhere in Windows and Klypix opens over whatever you are doing. Klypix must already be running in the system tray, and you can change the shortcut.

Ask your question. When an answer is worth keeping, hover over it and choose Add to canvas. Klypix switches to the canvas and adds the answer as a text card, headed “From chat” with the time. Chat answers come from a cloud AI model.

How do you reuse something you copied earlier?

Open clipboard history from the command palette. Press Alt+K from anywhere, or use the Clipboard history button at the top of the canvas, and search for the earlier copy. Pick it, and Klypix puts it back on your clipboard; when the palette shows “Paste to” another app, it also pastes it into that app. Then click the canvas and press Ctrl+V. Text, links, images and copied files become cards, just like a fresh paste.

The history survives restarts, and it has pinning and a retention limit. It is stored unencrypted in Klypix’s data folder on your PC. It is not uploaded unless you turn on the optional sync of pinned items, which stores those pinned items on Klypix’s servers in readable form.

Filtering of password-manager copies is best effort, so treat clipboard history as a convenience, not a safe for secrets. You can turn clipboard history off.

How do you add something from your iPhone?

Share it to Klypix. Install Klypix for iPhone from the App Store and pair it with Klypix on your PC. Then, in any app, tap Share → Klypix to send a photo, file, link or text to your own canvas. It is encrypted before it leaves the phone.

You can send an item to your inbox, or pick a cloud-shared canvas you have marked as shareable to your phone for it to land on. Klypix on your PC collects items promptly, not instantly, and only while it is running.

If your PC is off, the item waits in the cloud. You can open or download it from Klypix Drive in the meantime. Klypix collects it the next time it is running on your PC.

The app is iPhone only. On another phone, you can install klypix.com/s to the home screen from a browser that supports web share targets. Klypix then appears as a share target that sends items to your PC, encrypted. For the full flow, see from iPhone to a Windows project.

How do you organise what you have saved?

Group related cards and connect them with arrows.

• Groups. Select related cards and press Ctrl+G to put them in a titled group. Double-click the title to rename it.
• Folders. Keep files in folder cards, nested as deeply as you need.
• Arrows. Use the Connect tool (C) to draw an arrow between two cards. An arrow can also carry one of eight typed relationships: leads to, depends on, relates to, conflicts with, supports, questions, costs and blocks. The type sets the arrow’s colour and icon. The canvas’s AI agent and connected AI tools set these types; there is no menu for choosing one by hand. Each connection records whether a person or an AI agent drew it.

In the kitchen renovation, an arrow could run from “Order cabinets” to “Final measurements”, typed “depends on”. Another, typed “conflicts with”, could flag a tile choice that breaks the budget note.

Does adding material send anything off your PC?

Adding material does not upload your project on its own. The project file is stored on your own disk and reaches the cloud only when you share or sync it. Once a project is shared, Klypix keeps its cloud copy up to date as you edit, so what you add is uploaded too. The file is encrypted on your PC before upload, but the canvas title, and on a shared canvas the live edits that power collaboration, are not encrypted.

Some ways in do use the network:

• A link card asks the website for the page’s title and preview image.
• Read contents fetches the linked page or video, and a cloud AI model turns videos into text.
• Chat answers come from a cloud AI model.
• Items shared from your iPhone travel through Klypix’s servers, encrypted before they leave the phone.
• If you have added your own Gemini API key, or you are signed in to use Klypix’s included AI, Klypix may send a newly added file’s name to the AI model to suggest tags for the card. For text files, Word documents and spreadsheets, a short sample of the text goes with it.

Read the privacy policy before adding sensitive material.

What are the limits?

• Embedded folder size limits. An embedded folder card holds up to 1 GB of files, with at most 200 MB per file. Files over 200 MB are skipped and listed on the card, and a card over 200 MB is not moved into a folder card. By default, folders over 200 MB stay on disk as linked listings. We have not published a tested maximum size or card count for a whole project space.
• Linked items need their originals. A linked folder or file needs the original to stay available on your PC, and its files do not travel with the project.
• Folder cards hold files only. Notes and boxes cannot go inside a folder card.
• No subfolder rename yet. You cannot yet rename a subfolder inside a folder card.
• Deleting from a folder removes the bytes. Undo does not bring back a file deleted from a folder card, which is why Klypix asks you to confirm.
• No de-duplication. The same image dropped twice is stored twice.
• Previews cover listed types only. PDF, DOCX, spreadsheet, image, video and audio files get previews, and small text and code files show their text. Other files, images over 50 MB, and video or audio over 500 MB appear as plain file cards.
• Read contents has limits. Videos must be public posts, are read by a cloud AI model, and can come back as an audio-only or labelled partial read.
• Clipboard history is not a safe for secrets. It is stored unencrypted, and filtering of password-manager copies is best effort.
• Phone items need the PC app running. They reach the canvas when Klypix is running on your PC, not instantly.
• The desktop app is Windows only. The iPhone app shares into it; it is not a copy of the desktop workspace.

How do you try this on one project?

Download Klypix for Windows and open a new canvas. Drag in one real folder, paste one link and snip one screenshot. Then write a note about what matters, and connect it to its evidence with an arrow. Save the project, then unzip a copy of the .klypix file to see what it holds.
